Diseases of exotic countries

Today, the most distant corners of the globe have become available to  tourists. It’s great to go to some exotic country, see its beauty, try unusual dishes, buy beautiful souvenirs, and then, looking at photos, remember a fascinating journey. But it happens that we bring from such trips and a variety of exotic diseases that practically do not occur in Europe, which means that it is not easy to recognize them. Their deceit lies in the fact that often they disguise themselves as a common cold or indigestion and the person does not pay much attention to them – it will pass by itself. Or goes to the district clinic, where the doctor is also not very versed in such an ailment. As a result, an untreated disease develops and can cause a lot of trouble, and sometimes end tragically.

Going on a trip, it is advisable to know what infection can be encountered in one or another part of the world.

Turkey
The country is not too exotic, moreover, it is perfectly inhabited by Russians. Nevertheless, there are careless tourists lurking their sores. This is primarily malaria and dysentery. True, you can catch this infection in almost all hot countries.

Malaria is transmitted by mosquitoes through bites. Its symptoms appear after 7-30 days, but the disease can attack a few years after infection. The symptoms of influenza are characteristic of malaria: fever, fever, weakness, sweating, headache, joint pain. The most severe form of malaria, tropical fever, can be infected in Africa. This disease is mortally dangerous in order to protect itself, preferably before the trip, during the trip and after returning to take antimalarial drugs.

Dysentery is called dirty hands disease, but in countries with hot climates hygiene may not help. Even in the famous resorts of Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia, it is easy to pick up a dysentery stick – Shigella, not to mention other countries in Africa or Asia. After all, we don’t know who and how prepares food, how thoroughly they wash fruits and vegetables, whether the water in the pool is disinfected, etc. Dysentery begins with chills, fever, abdominal pain, and then diarrhea joins.

India
In India, tourists should beware of many diseases, the most terrible – cholera, plague and leprosy.

It is easy to catch cholera during bathing by swallowing dirty water from a reservoir, or when eating fruits and vegetables washed with contaminated water, through dishes, underwear. Symptoms of cholera are vomiting and frequent diarrhea, which quickly causes dehydration. Cholera can be found in almost all exotic and not very exotic countries, in the same Egypt.

Plague – many believe that it remained in the distant past, in the Middle Ages. In fact, you can meet her in many countries. Along with India, these are Vietnam, China, Mozambique, Congo, Zimbabwe, as well as Brazil, Ecuador, Peru.

Plague can be infected through insect bites, such as fleas, by eating meat from a sick animal (bubonic form) or from a sick person by airborne droplets (pulmonary form). A symptom of bubonic plague is a strong increase in lymph nodes. The pulmonary form is manifested by a dry cough with blood, fever, chills, headache. Skin plague is characterized by the appearance of a painful bladder on the body, and after its opening, ulcers with a black bottom (hence the name “black death”). Today, the plague can be cured, but treatment should be started as early as possible – the disease develops rapidly.

Leprosy, or leprosy, begins with the appearance on the body and face of spots of red or blue, vesicles and nodules. They turn into ulcers that heal, forming terrible keloid scars that disfigure a person. The eyes, mucous membranes of the mouth and nose are also affected. Leprosy can affect the nervous system, causing neuritis, paresis and paralysis. The disease can be dealt with, but the treatment is long.

In addition to India, leprosy can be infected in African countries, in Thailand, on the Pacific islands, in Brazil.

African countries
Here, the traveler, along with malaria, plague, cholera, is threatened with yellow fever and a huge number of parasites.

Yellow fever is a dangerous viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes. Manifested by fever, headache, body aches, nausea and vomiting. Many organs are affected: heart, kidneys, liver. Bleeding occurs: from the nose, intestinal bleeding, vomiting with blood, internal hemorrhages. Lethal outcome is possible. You can protect yourself from yellow fever by vaccination.

Along with African countries, yellow fever can be infected in Latin and Central America.

Parasites can be infected in almost all tropical countries, not only in Africa, but also in Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The danger comes from contaminated food, water, not only when drinking it, but when bathing in fresh water or even swimming pools. For example, one of the most common worms is a trematode from the genus schistosome, it can be infected in more than 70 countries.
